Anti-War Dems Face Dilemma Over Iraq Vote

I think it's funny to watch these guys and gals run around in circles trying to figure out what to do. They are so worried about the politically correct or most politically advantageous answer that they can't even take a principled stand for what they supposedly believe in.

Israeli Official Expects Peace to Prevail

Two things: First, he can't say he expects peace to fail because he would be instantly condemned by the international community as a man who wanted war with the Palestinians. Second, I love the phrasing: he predicted the Palestinians would ultimately understand they have no choice but to accept Israel.

That's a not-so-veiled way of saying "We're not going anywhere. Deal with it."

Mexico Eager to Discuss Immigration

The biggest difference between Mexican President Calderon and former President Fox is that Calderon is focusing on finding ways to keep Mexicans at home by strengthening the Mexican economy. He doesn't seem content to just allow an open door to the U.S. That's a start on the right path to fixing the immigrant problem.

In Congress, Iraq is a Political Quagmire

The radical left is trying desperately to seize control of the Democrat Party. So far, they have been unsuccessful because some moderate Dems actually appreciate the consequences of just pulling our troops out and going home. It will be a sad day for this nation if the leftist radicals gain any real power. We will be weakened both at home and abroad.

Dem Congress Haunted by Dukakis, Mondale and Carter

Well, in all fairness, they don't exactly have a stellar record when it comes to being strong on national defense.

China Military's Lack of Openness Raises Risk

The Chinese are secretive because they don't want us to know how fast they are progressing. China is putting a lot of money and a lot of effort into closing the military gap with the United States. They are still a long way away, but they are working feverishly toward catching up with us. This is why I have repeatedly said that we cannot lose focus on China while we fight the war on terror. To do so would require us to pay the price for our indifference later down the road.

Who's to Blame for Russia?

Everyone is always so quick to blame the United States for all the problems of other nations. But Russia has brought many of her problems on herself. You still have a lot of the same guys still around from the Soviet era. They're just not called Soviets anymore. Putin is a former KGB guy. Old habits die hard. Democracy is hard, but Russia has all too often looked for the easy road and blamed others when there was nothing easy about what she was going through.

The Capitol Hill Scam That's Legal

This piece demonstrates perfectly what's wrong with our Congress today. Our Senators and Representatives are bought and sold for political favor. What's in the best interest of a politician's career often trumps what's in the best interest of the United States.

Do We Really Need a General Pelosi?

I was a bit surprised to see an editorial from the LA Times supporting the idea of a Bush veto of the House's Iraq withdrawal plan. The Times called the plan "the worst kind of congressional meddling in military strategy."

But that's exactly what the Dems want. They want to micromanage the war for political gain, regardless of the consequences in the Middle East. It is irresponsible and probably unconstitutional as an infringement on the President's constitutional authority as commander in chief.

Richardson Opens Office in Nevada

He's being proactive, especially for a longshot. What the Dems don't realize is that Bill Richardson is probably the most qualified candidate on the left. But they are too wrapped up in the star appeal of Hillary and Obama to worry about actual substance in a candidate.

Women No Sure Bet for Clinton

One thing that has always amazed me about women is the fact that they can be much more ruthless to each other than men are to them. A woman will cut another woman up in pieces (figuratively speaking) and leave her bleeding in the street. There are a lot of women out there who absolutely despise Hillary.

Obama: No one Suffering More Than Palestinians

Maybe the Palestinians should try electing a non-terrorist group for their government. That would free up some aid. They could even try recognizing the right of Israel to exist. How's that for a crazy idea? Of course, stopping the suicide bombers from blowing up Israeli restaurants, buses, and movie theaters wouldn't hurt either.

Dems to Investigate Halliburton Move

They plan on investigating everything, don't they? Maybe they should consider making the United States for business-friendly for tax purposes. Are we now faulting businesses who look at the market and decide to go where they have the most potential for profit? The Dems want Halliburton to stay so that they can tax them heavily to support social programs, but these guys have shareholders to answer to. Hard to explain why you choose to settle for lower profits.

Fallback Plan if Surge Fails

You can't just move troops out of harm's way unless you get them out of Iraq completely. The enemy will move to wherever you are. If you leave the cities and consolidate on the borders, they will move to the borders. It's that simple. This draft plan sounds like it's in line with the idea that the surge is the last chance, which I think is a reasonable assumption. The Congress and the public won't tolerate another idea.

Federal Deficit Down Sharply This Period

More evidence of the poor American economy. Revenue collections continue to outpace government spending. Imagine how great things would be if we could cut some of the pork and eliminate the wasteful federal spending.
